McCain tours Mexican Catholic shrine, ends journey to promote free-trade with U.S. neighbors

John McCain was discussing the thorny issue of immigration Thursday with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, as the Republican presidential candidate wrapped up a three-day visit to Colombia and Mexico designed to promote free trade and burnish his foreign policy credentials. McCain, whose home state of Arizona borders Mexico, was also visiting the Basilica de Guadalupe, Mexico's holiest site for Catholics. Hispanics and Catholics are expected to be key swing voters in the November election against Democrat Barack Obama, who has also worked to woo the same groups. The Republican was meeting with Calderon to discuss illegal immigration, a key issue for Hispanic voters but a sore subject for many conservative voters who oppose efforts to allow some of the roughly 11 million such immigrants to eventually gain U.S. citizenship.... It was the U.S. Federal Government that first sponsored the moving of factories outside the USA starting in 1956. Most Presidents since then played a part in various funding of the Maquiladora factory program in Mexico. At first only a few factories were moved but by 1992 prior to the passing of the NAFTA trade agreement, there were more than 2,000 U.S. factories moved to Mexico to take advantage of workers averaging only 62 cents an hour in the Maquiladora factories. U.S. companies moved their factories there for the sake of this cheap labor and to avoid all the regulations and pollution standards in the USA. There were reports of an increase in abnormal births on both sides of the border. After the passing of NAFTA led by President Clinton with a Democrat controlled Congress locking hands with the Globalist Republicans, the number of factories moved to Mexico quickly doubled to more than 4,000. Soon after, President Clinton had to rush billions of dollars to Mexico to save the peso. None of these actions stop the vast migration of Mexico workers to the USA. Many Mexican workers would not take the jobs in these former U.S. factories due to the low wages. At the same time, so called Free Trade cost millions of middle class workers' jobs in the USA as a new working poor class was created. Temporary, day labor and contract jobs replaced the full time direct jobs with benefits in the USA. It is not make believe and we do not need any conspiracy theories to know , external powerful forces inside government, big business, the media and the academic world played a big part in pushing Free Trade and Globalization.
