Newstin is a unique, semantic, cross-language information retrieval engine with metadata tagging and data visualization capabilities. Newstin.com helps you to organize YOUR online world, by categorizing hundreds of thousands of news articles and blogs in multiple languages into searchable topics retrievable on YOUR terms and in the language of your choice.
How is Newstin different? You can search/browse/read news according to topics and not just keywords. While browsing through the topic structure you can switch languages and have foreign language articles translated in real-time. As a recent addition, the same approach has been implemented for discussions and comments based on the Newstin categories, so now you can easily find and read in translation editorial and comment columns from foreign language publications.
What is the benefit of organizing news into topics? With Newstin’s unique technology you can find and track specific news items and topics of interest much more efficiently. For example, the Information Technologies topic page provides relevant news from the entire IT industry, be it on software, hardware, internet, intranet, spam, etc., and not just stories containing the phrase 'information technologies' as is the case with standard search engines. Because the latest and most covered news items are always at the top of the topic lists, you can remain informed of latest developments at a mere glance.
How do I personalize Newstin?Use the '+ My Newstin' button to create a shortcut to your favorite topics or search queries in My Newstin bar. For example: Go to the Education topic page and then click on the '+ My Newstin' button / Perform a search query and hit '+ My Newstin' button.
Can I save a search query?Yes, you can save a search by hitting '+ My Newstin' button.
What is the difference between country editions of the same language, for example the US and UK editions? Two things: articles are ranked according to the location of the publisher. This means that articles published by UK sources are usually ranked first in the UK edition. Secondly, topics of particular relevance to UK readers are prioritized by various navigation elements(e.g. news about the UK Government takes priority over US government news).
I cannot find a news category of my interest. Is there any way of adding it? How many topics are there at Newstin.com?Newstin currently features approximately 700 thousand topics across all featured languages.
What is the 'Source Location' option in the advanced search? This selects the country of origin of the news source (irrespective of language). For instance, if you want to search for articles about climate change from UK sources only, select the United Kingdom edition and enter the keywords 'climate change'.
Does Newstin offer news feeds?Yes, we offer a feed for every topic page which you can view with your reader software or integrate the feed into your website/blog. Go to our Tools page to select a feed or HTML code of your choice.
What are the benefits of the Cross-language Topic Structure? You can track news on any of the 100’s of thousands of topics across multiple languages. For example, you can read news about agriculture in English and with one click switch to German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian etc. for articles in those languages on the same subject and use the free on-line translator.
How to find a topic? There are two ways. A) With any search you perform, Newstin will suggest the most relevant topical categories. B) Visual navigation: Click on the NewstinMap Flash application in the upper right-hand corner to open the NewstinMap where you can browse through the topic structure, or enter a topic in the search field.
What languages are currently supported by Newstin?English (US & UK), German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Czech, Russian, Arabic, Chinese (simplified).
Why do non-Latin alphabets and characters not appear in my browser? If, for example, you want to access Chinese language content, installing the East Asian language support in your operation system should enable the display of Chinese characters. Use this procedure for other non-Latin alphabets such as Cyrillic and Arabic.
How does 'Send to a friend'/'Invite to join discussion' work? This service facilitates sending email links to articles, Newstin category pages and invitations to join Newstin discussions. Just click on the 'Send to a friend'/'Invite to join discussion' link and submit the required information.

Newstin does not collect or store any of this information and does not sell or provide such information to third parties.
How far back does the archive go?Newstin is a current awareness service and we currently archive articles for up to 6 months.
What is Sentiment Analysis and how does it work on Newstin?Sentiment Analysis is a tool developed by Newstin to indicate the overall tone of an article i.e., whether it has a positive, negative or neutral feel to it. For example, an article about an oil spillage at sea would most likely contain negative wording due to the effects of the incident. Our Sentiment-o-Meter provides readers with an indication of the tone of an article without reading it. Red represents negative tone, green positive and grey is for neutral tone: The higher the scale of the color (from bottom to top), the greater the degree of the given sentiment.
